Story

This song is part of a Grammy nominated compilation CD called All About Bullies -- Big and Small. I dedicate this to  all who have had to face a bully.  Cheers for Faith, a young girl who actually stops a bully in his tracks and inspires everyone!

Lyrics

Leap of Faith

©2005 by Nancy Schimmel and Marla Lewis

Faith was timid, Faith was shy
If you said boo! it made her cry
She played mostly by herself,
Hid her drawings on a shelf

Faith would never raise her hand
No one dreamed she’d take a stand.

One day in the school playground
A bully pushed a small kid down
Faith jumped up, yelled, “Cut that out!
Leave that kid alone right now!”
All the children gathered ‘round

And cheered Faith with this joyful sound:

Jumpin’ jiminy – You go girl!
Shout it out around the world!

Jumpin’ jiminy, lead the way
You got to take a leap of Faith!

Bully stopped dead in his tracks
Kids just stared and he stared back

Then he turned and walked away

A miracle occurred that day
Timid Faith was scared no more
The cheers rang louder than before:

Jumpin’ jiminy – You go girl!
Shout it out around the world!

Jumpin’ jiminy, lead the way
You got to take a leap of Faith!

Wanna make a diff’rence in this world?
Then think about that little girl,
She wasn’t brave, she wasn’t tough

Till one day when she’d had enough!
Y’see, still waters run real deep,
So when it’s time, you’ll take your leap!

Story

Okay, so I'm a teacher, and I can't help it!  Actually, I got the idea for this song from making videos.  I want to create a video that is divided into at least six parts, with me and puppets and kids playing a different rhythm or mouth percussion in each section of the picture.

Then I found the acoustic bass loop in Garageband.  It inspired me!  The syllables and stresses in the names of many of the Spanish speaking countries fit right in with that riff, so I was off and running.  Stay tuned for the video on this one!

Lyrics

Mighty Jackie the Strikeout Queen
©2007 by Marla Lewis and Les Julian

The year was 1931, an exhibition baseball game
The Yankees played an unknown team
Chattanooga Lookouts was its name
Babe Ruth stepped up to bat
To the pitcher, he tipped his hat
What happened next will sound absurd
But it’s the truth, every word!

Strike one--- caught the corner-
Babe watched that ball whiz by
Strike two---sinking slider
Babe swung and missed this time
He scowled at the pitcher
That puny thing
The crowd was on its feet
And before Babe knew what was happening
Strike three! ---down the middle
The greatest batter in the world
Stormed back ---to the dugout
He’d just been struck out by a girl!

Mighty Jackie the strikeout queen
Struck ‘em out at seventeen
Every paper and magazine
Cheered for Jackie Mitchell, the Strikeout Queen

Up next – Lou Gehrig
Well known as Iron Horse
First pitch – wicked sinker
He slammed the air with mighty force
He glared at the pitcher
He checked his swing
The crowd went crazy now
And before Lou knew what was happening
Strike three! – It was over
Witnessed by the whole wide world
Lou stormed – to the dugout
He’d just been struck out by a girl!

Chorus

(BRIDGE)
The Commissioner decided
That Jackie should be fired
‘Cause Baseball’s not a woman’s game
But we know the truth:
She struck out Babe Ruth
And now she’s in the Hall of Fame!
