The Life Of Your Mind

The Wonder of Alpha Waves

As you probably know,Your brain is made up of billions of cells called neurons that communicate with each other via electrical signals. This where all your thoughts, emotions and behaviors originate.

These electrical signals form wave-like patterns – so we call them brainwaves. Alpha brainwaves were the first type to be discovered back in 1924 by German psychiatrist Hans Berger.

Scientists now believe there are 5 different types of human brainwaves, all of which move at different speeds (measured in hertz). These brainwaves change constantly throughout the day according to what you’re doing and feeling. For instance, when your brainwaves are slower, you feel calm and relaxed. But when your brainwaves move faster, you’re super alert.

If you’re feeling a bit low or lacking in inspiration, boosting your alpha brainwaves may help. Recent research suggests the stimulation of alpha brainwaves may help make you more creative and possibly even help treat depression.

So how do we generate more alpha waves?  Can we do this consciously?  Tune in tomorrow to find out!

Introduction -- What is the Life of My Mind all about?

Welcome to The Life of Your Mind! This is a blog about Creativity: what enhances it, what hinders it? What are the optimal conditions for  your Creativity to flow?

I'm so in awe of the process of creating something that didn't exist before. It's something precious to me.  I've been a songwriter since the tender age of twelve, but most of my years of writing were unproductive. It took me decades to finally relax, enjoy myself, not fret if a new tune didn't knock me out, just keep going because it's fun! It's become one of the great joys of my life. And, I've become my own best friend in the process!

How about you?  What do you create -- songs, poems, books, buildings, sweaters, airplanes? Do you consider yourself a creative person? How are your ideas flowing these days?

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts.  Tell me about yourself below!
